Environmental Stewardship
We consider ourselves as responsible stewards of God’s creation. Therefore, it is imperative for us to safeguard our natural resources and eco-systems to promote a sustainable environment.
From a business standpoint, our manufacturing model allows for the entire use of its primary raw material, the coconut, translating to nearly zero-waste generated from operations. After nut opening, coconut shells are utilized as biomass fuel for boilers that produce food-grade steam.
Moreover, we are fully compliant with environmental laws and guidelines set forth by the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources. In 2019, there were no fines or penalties imposed on Axelum for any environment-related violations.
Tetra Pak Recycling Facility
Aligned with its thrust on environmental preservation, Axelum established the first Tetra Pak recycling facility in Mindanao. This project aims to convert used packaging materials into chipboards, which can be substituted for plywood as construction inputs. To date, Axelum has produced more than 1,800 pieces of regularly-sized chipboards while continuously searching for innovative ways to further optimize this material.
